What is a CSA?
In the Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) model individuals purchase shares from their local farm for an entire growing season, providing a consistent income stream in a business that is full of unknowns; this model shares the risk of these unknowns between producer and consumer, in a food system that often disregards the difficult realities of running a farm. When you become a shareholder for the season, you are guaranteed a weekly box of produce, and the farmer is guaranteed the income to support their farm.
The CSA model creates a closer relationship between producer and consumer, taking out the many steps from farm to table that are inherent within a traditional food system. Becoming a CSA member gives you the opportunity to intimately learn about your local food system and the process of food production, and to directly ask questions of the people that feed you.
